I’ve been taking my time with the makeover this Summer. What I didn’t want to do was spend a significant amount of time working and completely miss out on my kids while they’re home. So I’ve spread my time out spending a full day here or there on it. While I wait on a few odds and ends to arrive, I wanted to show you the primary bathroom progress.

In case you missed the before post with the design plan. I had given up on this bathroom years ago, and there was just too much visual clutter.

Mirrors & Lighting

First changes were removing the builder grade mirrors I added trim to ten years ago. The one long mirror was replaced with two mirrors and the smaller vanity received a single matching mirror. Next, I hired out having the lights repositioned because I have zero interest dealing with moving electrical behind the wall. What a huge difference the new lights made.

Faucets

Then, I got rid of the old black centerset faucets and replaced them with new single hole faucets. This will probably annoy some people. Here’s my reasoning. My marble counters were cut with three holes but they only accommodate a center-set faucet, not a wide-set which I would prefer. I didn’t want to replace the countertop (remember this is a small scale makeover) so my solution was to do a single hole faucet with an escutcheon plate. I prefer this over another center-set faucet.

Tub

I then removed the shiplap tubskirt so the faucet could be changed out. The plumbing for the tub was the other item I hired out. My house always seems to have weird issues with electrical and plumbing so it saves my sanity hiring that out. Once that was done I trimmed out the tubskirt the way I had always wanted it to be from the very beginning.

Side story: When we built we paid extra for an “upgraded” paneled skirt with trim instead of the standard tile. What they gave us were two wonky cabinet doors glued to a cabinet opening. I was beyond annoyed, but didn’t fight it because there were bigger issues we needed to fight the builder over. Years later I removed the glued doors and added the shiplap. Now it’s finally the way I intended front the start.

Crown & Wall Trim

I spent a ridiculously hot and humid two days getting trim cut and installed, but the difference it made was so worth it! I made a last minute decision to paint the crown and baseboards the same color as the walls and ceiling. Originally I was keeping it white because that is how our attached before is painted. Color drenching this space just makes so much more sense. I’ll do the same for our bedroom a little later on that way it is cohesive.

One thing that won’t be tackled before I do the reveal is repainting the black vanities. My preference is to spray them but the heat and humidity this time of year won’t allow that. I’m going to wait on that until the weather cooperates. It’s not something I want to mess up.
