A little over three years ago our guest bedroom got a makeover. Up until then it had been the room that collected all of our furniture leftovers. I was going to be adding a new rug into the room and thought that would be a great time to freshen up the bedding and bring in some of the warmer tones from other areas of our home. It didn’t take much and now our guest room refresh feels so good!

Rug Swap
What kicked off this whole guest room refresh was the new rug. My mom had been looking for a rug for her living room and the previous one was exactly what she was looking for so it went to her house. Rugs have the ability to completely change the feel of a room without changing anything else. I wanted to bring in more blues into this space and this rug immediately caught my eye. There are various shades of blue and a touch of gold/brown. The perfect bridge for cool blues and warmer browns.

New Bedding
Another simple change is updating your bedding. The white sheets were replaced with this tan set. I kept the box spring cover, which is nothing more than a fitted sheet, white for some contrast. The quilt is slightly darker to break up the linen duvet I found on Amazon which is the same color as the sheets. Speaking of the duvet, I like to use a king size duvet on queen size beds because then you have more to wrap up and snuggle with. I hate being left out in the cold when one side gets pulled over too far. Another bedding tip I have for you is to use varying shades of the same color and different types of material to keep a bed from looking boring.
My favorite addition is the brown Kantha quilt across the foot of the bed. It is such a great accent piece to have because the pattern and color works anywhere I place it in our home! And then the pillows are just a mix of blues, gray, and brown from my collection that I move around the house.

Shop the Look
Sometimes all you need to give a room new life is by swapping out the textiles. In this case it was the bedding and rug. As other parts of our home have been moving to warmer tones it’s nice to have this room feel more connected.
